Finding bugs is never a pleasant occurrence in my house. Typically I scream if there’s a spider – no matter how large or small. And all insects create a LOT of drama for my son and daughter. My husband’s the only calm, rational bug squasher in our home.

Keeping insects from invading our inside space is important. In my pre-children days, I had never hesitated using toxic sprays – especially when dealing with what seemed like plagues of moths, ladybugs, cockroaches, gnats, ants, and spiders. (Fortunately not all plagues hit at the same time.)
Now the goal in our home is to prevent bugs without poisons. One very effective but time-consuming method is the ever-safe, ever-tidy practice of vacuuming – particularly with the long suction tubes.
